Authentic assessment tasks

As the end of semester approaches, last classes this week, and final projects and assignments are being submitted, a recurring question needs to be addressed:

Why am I being inundated with emails and advertisements for software tools that detect plagiarism?

Why aren’t we designing authentic assessment tasks that require the individual to develop their own learning experiences – that can’t be copied or bought on the internet?
